The Stars were Big & Bright At The 16th Annual Star Awards Banquet!

The 16th Annual Showcasing Triangle Achievements in Remodeling (STAR) Awards were held on May 7th, 2009 at the Renaissance Hotel at North Hills in Raleigh, NC. Presented by the Remodelers Council of the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Raleigh-
Wake County, the STAR Awards recognize excellence and professionalism in the remodeling industry.

Each project submitted was completed in the previous year and is judged on a 600 point scale in the following criteria: workmanship, detailing, quality of materials used, overall appearance, floor plan and design, lighting, special touches, and difficulties overcome.

Homeowners also judged the projects and their scores were approximately 15% of the total. The homeowners judged on the following criteria: overall service and responsiveness, overall appearance, quality of work, special touches, and overall satisfaction.

The Remodeler of the Year and Associate of the Year were also announced during the STAR awards ceremony. The recipients of these awards were nominated by their peers and winners were selected by the Remodelers Council members of the HBA of Raleigh-Wake County.

The Remodeler of the Year is presented to a remodeler who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to serve and represent the Remodelers Council. This year Peggy Mackowski (of Quality Design and Construction, Inc.) was honored for her many years of outstanding service and dedication to the Remodelers Council of the HBA of Raleigh-Wake County. Terry Jones of Brooks Building Products was named Associate of the Year.

A complete “make-over” of the existing guest bathroom included select cherry vanity, custom ceramic tile in tub area and floors, granite tops and upscale wood moldings. A transom was added in the bathtub area for a more open feeling. A granite picture frame vanity mirror added elegance.

The homeowners needed a bigger and more modern space in their existing home. A large sunroom and laundry room was added to the rear of the house and existing exterior walls were removed to create a feeling of elegance and open space. Interior finishes were matched to complete the look.

This was a most unique project to add to the kitchen remodeling project. A tin ceiling was installed to create an “art deco” feeling. The individual tin panels were finished on the job site with a 5 coat process and select trim installed to receive the new ceiling, creating a new focal point.

Three separate areas were created by using glazed cherry cabinets with a black distressed island in the cooking area, a grand piano shaped granite counter and open fireplace in the social area and an “art deco” cabinet style in the computer center. Detail in all areas made this kitchen truly “one of a kind.”
